I'm not sure how many of you know me by this point, but I feel I've been a pretty active member since I joined in October. I want to say a few words about our community. When I first started commenting, I wasn't really sure what to expect, and to be honest I was doing it out of boredom. I was hoping to finally have a place to talk with other people who were just as interested in cars as I am, something of which I had been unfortunately deprived. What I ended up discovering was something much more than that.
You see, I recently moved across the Atlantic to a huge city where I live alone and hardly speak the native language. I go to school, but to be honest I often have a hard time relating to the other students, most of whom care more about going out to clubs than, well, anything else. All of this can be… isolating. Being able to come on here when my friends and family back in the States are asleep; being able to come on here when the people near me are busy or I don't feel like going to a museum by myself—this has helped keep me happy.
I don't come on here because I'm terribly alone and I need emotional support or anything like that. I come on here because I can talk with people and just feel normal. I can feel like I'm a part of something, discuss common interests, and get to know some really great people. Even back in my days in the gray, Oppositelock has been nothing but welcoming to me. I chat with a few of you regularly and quite enjoy it. I even added my first fellow Opponaut on Facebook today.
Oppo has helped me meet new people, nurtured one of my passions, kept me healthy, and even allowed me to entertain others through my writing. This community has been one of the friendliest I've ever encountered, and I sincerely hope I can meet as many of you in person as possible. This is the Oppo I know, and I thank all of you for being a part of it.
Cheers!

cheers indeed. Welcome to my real life craziness on facebook too!

I don't know you, but I already don't like you. j/k
Oppo is an interesting place for sure. It's unique in that there is a large varying age of commenters, probably more so than most other message boards I've ever visited. This is a good thing to me because there's always something interesting to read here, because so many people have such different life experiences. The people are really what make Oppo Oppo.

Oppo is Oppo :) We are all friends here, so occasionally we fight :P But mostly we get along. Feel free to find me on Facebook if you want, my name here on Oppo is my real name (well, not the Laird part though).

Welcome to the land of Oppo. This community has been one of the easier places to inhabit other then forum boards that get stale fast.

No way, I go to school in Norman! I can probably swing by on my next drive down to school.

My buddy made a comment recently about how shocked he was with how willing the people on Oppo are to help each other with questions or meet up in real life. This all came shortly after heading to Maine for a truck race. We made a stop to meet up with 505 . I've gotten help with all sorts of stuff on here and its definitely a strong reason I actually ended up with the WRX. I do kinda miss the classy nsfw stuff tho.
![]() 02/05/2015 at 14:35 |

Indeed :) Mostly I bicker about the lack of Scandinavians here though :P
![]() 02/05/2015 at 14:36 |

I have no doubt that when I venture into the world of wrenching for myself and inevitably get in over my head, someone from Oppo can come bail me out. Regarding the NSFW stuff, aren't there like two other places now that that's moved to?

Oppo scandinavian outreach program? You guys are like masters of oppo, what with your flicking and all.

Awesome - just let me know when you're coming through! Check out Tulsa Caffeine and Gasoline on Facebook - might be worth your time to swing over some Saturday - and Hallett http://www.hallettracing.net/ .

Nah mate, we aint no masters.. Ken "Ford" Block and Mad "Mazda" Mike are better :P That said, we do have Fredric "Sideways" Aasbø :P

Yeah for sure! I usually go down to school the first week of August but OKC to Tulsa isn't really a bad drive to make just by itself.

Holy crap that video is epic.

I think it is an amazing city, and am quite jealous of you. I'm currently debating weather or not I want to go back to school in France (for winemaking). Paris has some great places, and really lends itself to aimless wandering by one's self. I'm not sure how long you have been there but there are some really great places to discover and explore. Hell, you can spend a month in the Louvre alone! Anyway, profitez bien du Paris! And don't stop posting great content here!
On another note, have been attending Rétromobile?
![]() 02/05/2015 at 14:45 |

possibly? i don't really want start a new debate on it, i mean 95% of the internet is boobies so i'll live.
![]() 02/05/2015 at 14:47 |

Yes, it is quite the place to be a flâneur. I'm thinking about going to Rétromobile, but unfortunately life is kind of getting in the way and I have both an appointment at the immigration office tomorrow and advising for my classes for next semester. Doesn't look I'm going to be able to make it : /

You should do a search on Fredric Aasbø.. there are TONS of videos out there that REALLY show how talented he is..
In the meantime you can have some Norwegian Drifting.. :P

There's always the Citroën Flagship on the Champs Elysee. The Lamborghini, Ferrari, and other such nice dealers are on the La Défense side of the L'Arc de Triomphe.

if there is one thing I love about this place its that its genuinely the best, most grounded and interesting collection of people that aren't people (avatars, whatnot) on the webs. Sometime when I go to other places I forget how nice it is here.
![]() 02/05/2015 at 15:04 |

I haven't actually made it over to La Défense yet, I'll have to check it out. Been to all the stores on Champs-Élysées though. Toyota has one of their racing prototype cars out at theirs right now.

All of those flagships there always have some neat stuff. The other dealerships are not all the way to La Defense (though you should check it out). They're pretty close to L'Arc, just on the La Defense side, so pretty close!
![]() 02/05/2015 at 15:08 |

Oh, that's perfect. I live literally 2 minutes from the Arc. I can see it out my window!

One Lap will be at Hallett on May 7th - I'm going to try to be there for that.

I'll be in France until at least the last week of May. I'm in Oklahoma from August to May typically though.

Gotcha - just shoot me a note if you're ever in the area.
What are you studying over there?
![]() 02/05/2015 at 15:59 |

You know you can go ontop of it right? In my opinion, it's the best vantage point to get views of Paris. And you don't want to wait forever to get to the top like you do the Eiffel Tower. The other cool spot is at the Sacre Coeur. Also the spot where C'était un Rendez-Vous ended.
![]() 02/05/2015 at 16:03 |
|
Yep, and it's free with my visa. I like to go up there every once in a while, especially at night when it's not too crowded. Haven't made it out to Sacre Couer yet. That needs to change.

Student Visa should get you into most museums and cultural places for free which is super cool! If you like Impressionist works (Monet's "Water Lilies" for example) check out Musée de L'Orangerie.

I'm here for similar reasons (albeit much less lately, since my friends care about cars) But I get it man :)
Oppos magical, and I love it! I now have friends from all over, and they're awesome people to talk to. I love this community, and the people in it! :)
Stay classy buddy!
